Thorsten Martin Leucker, MD

Description

Dr. Thorsten M. Leucker is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Director of the Johns Hopkins Cardiovascular Clinical Research Unit (JH-CCRU), Director of the Cardiology Fellowship Program, and Director of Basic and Translational Vascular Biology Research within the Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease. He is a cardiologist, cardiac intensivist, preventive lipidologist, and physician-scientist whose clinical and research work focuses on lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)], vascular inflammation, coronary endothelial dysfunction, advanced cardiovascular imaging, and inflammation-driven mechanisms of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Dr. Leucker regularly attends in the Cardiac Critical Care Unit (CCU) and Advanced Lipid Disorders Clinic at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He leads investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored clinical trials integrating translational vascular biology, advanced cardiovascular imaging, and human mechanistic studies to develop novel approaches for cardiovascular prevention and treatment, with particular interest in residual inflammatory cardiovascular risk, HIV-associated cardiovascular disease, and acute coronary syndromes. Dr. Leucker earned M.D. and Ph.D. degrees summa cum laude from University of Bonn and completed Internal Medicine training at University of Louisville followed by Cardiovascular Disease fellowship training at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he served as the Henry R. Kravis & Marie-Josée Chief Cardiology Fellow.
