Dr. Michael Osnard is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a faculty member in the Division of Hospital Medicine within the Department of Medicine at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. His clinical practice focuses on hospital medicine and internal medicine, with particular emphasis on the acute inpatient care of adults. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, he provides bedside and ward-based instruction to medical students and resident physicians. Dr. Osnard earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and a Multidisciplinary Master of Public Health degree from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Health Sciences, with concentration in Physiology and Biophysics, from Stony Brook University. He completed his internal medicine residency training at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Osnard previously served on the faculty of the Johns Hopkins Executive and Preventive Health Program. He holds an Executive Certificate in Organizational Leadership from the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School and is an alumnus of the Johns Hopkins Armstrong Institute Patient Safety and Quality Leadership Academy. He has also been recognized by Baltimore magazine as a Top Doctor in Hospital Medicine in multiple years. Dr. Osnard serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Hospital Medicine and is a scholar in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Office of Faculty Early Career Cohort Leadership Program. His current research examines the role of spiritual care among hospitalized patients and its association with patient experience and clinical outcomes, with an emphasis on advancing whole-person care that attends to patients’ intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and physical dimensions of health. His broader scholarly interests include patient safety and healthcare quality improvement, with particular emphasis on the application of Lean Six Sigma methodologies to clinical operations and care delivery.
